On October 29, 2024, in what seemed like just a moment, Valencia’s L’Horta Sud region was transformed into an apocalyptic landscape. Water turned streets into rivers. Waves crashed against doors and windows, leaving behind silence and absence. Listening to the voices of the community, each being a lens for a different face of the disaster: a family from Catarroja, Pepa, an elderly woman from Paiporta, Mariangele’s, a woman facing economic hardship, and Pedro, a muralist transforming destruction into beauty for collective healing.
One year later, their testimonies form a shared memory. ‘L’Aigua Recorda’ is a tale of human resilience and adaptability, asking what remains when the flood recedes and how different members of the community carry on when catastrophe has redrawn the map of their lives. What gives them purpose? What helps them move forward?
